Ah, Philly.
It’s beautiful and gritty. It’s fun and a little raw. It’s jam packed with great restaurants, hip bars, and enough activities to keep you occupied until dawn if need be.
In short, it’s the perfect place for a girls’ weekend.
Just a short distance from New York City and Washington D.C., Philadelphia is the perfect place to let loose and have fun, and to throw in a dose of culture so you don’t have to admit that you just partied during your entire stay.
If you’ve got a group of girlfriends that are down for a great time, check out this sample itinerary for a weekend in Philly that you’ll be talking about for years to come.
Where to Stay
Hotels in Philadelphia are plenty, and you might be hard pressed to choose. For a dose of luxury try the Hyatt at the Bellevue. With its close proximity to shops and restaurants this property is a great choice, and it is right near the metro so you don’t have to walk too far after a night on the town.
Another alternative is to stay a bit further out of the city in areas like Bensalem. Hotels here can be less expensive but it’s still very easy to get into the city. For a dose of kitsch and fun stay at The Inn of the Dove. This little charmer with its themed rooms and great service is the perfect place to escape the city, albeit temporarily.
What to Do
As Philly is one of the most historic cities in the United States, you might feel like you’ve missed out if you don’t take in some of the sights. For an in depth history of one of America’s greatest statesmen try the Franklin Seminar and learn more about one of the founding fathers of this great country.
For something a little less historical and a lot more fun why not try the Philly on Tap tour? How could you go wrong with a lesson on the craft beers of Philadelphia, especially as your stop at each bar includes a pint? Win!
Also, you must try a famous, ooey gooey Philly cheese steak while you’re here. Tony Luke’s and Pat’s King of Steaks have a rivalry that goes back for years. Try both and decide which one you think takes top honors.
When to Go
Philly has the advantage of being a year round destination, for the most part. Obviously you’d want to avoid the dead of winter unless wading through snow drifts is your thing. August might also not be the best time to go as it can get a bit hot, and sweating buckets might not appeal to your girlfriends too much.
Spring and fall are gorgeous times in this city. The temperatures are mild and the spring flowers or fall colors make lovely backdrops for the Instagram photos you know you’ll be sharing.
History, fun, beer, great food, and did I mention beer? These all combine to make Philadelphia the perfect destination for anyone, but a group of fun and fabulous ladies can take this beautiful city by storm.
Who knows? You may never want to leave.
This post is sponsored content promoting the #hipmunkcitylove campaign. All opinions are my own, and I think Pat’s King of Steaks is clearly the best philly cheese steak in the city.
